About this tool
Long, random passwords are far harder to guess than words or dates. This tool builds each password from your browser's secure random number generator, and it guarantees at least one character from every type you tick.
The strength line estimates the number of random bits. Above 80 bits is strong, and above 110 bits is very strong. Length matters more than symbols, so a 20-character password with only letters and numbers can beat an 8-character one full of symbols.
Use a different password for every account and keep them in a password manager. Never share passwords over chat. This page does not store, log or send the passwords it creates.
Questions
Is this password generator safe?
Passwords are created in your browser with the crypto random generator and are never sent or stored.
How long should a password be?
At least 14 characters for ordinary accounts, and 20 or more for email, banking and your password manager.
Why avoid look-alike characters?
Characters such as 0 and O, or 1 and l, are easy to misread when you have to type a password by hand.
Should I include symbols?
Symbols add strength, but some sites reject them. Add length instead if a site refuses symbols.
