About this tool

Job portals, exam registrations and application forms often accept pictures only up to 50 KB. A phone photo is often 3 MB or more, so it needs to be reduced a lot. Moving a quality slider by hand until the file fits takes many tries.

This tool does the trying for you. It saves the picture as JPG at the highest quality that still fits under your target, and if that is not enough it reduces the pixel size a little and tries again. The result is at or just under 50 KB, and it keeps the picture as sharp as that size allows.

Photos of faces and documents stay readable at 50 KB if the picture is not very large to begin with. If a document photo becomes too blurry to read, ask the form for a larger limit or take the photo closer. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded.

Questions

Will my picture still look good at 50 KB?

Passport-style photos and signatures usually do. Large photos with fine detail will lose some sharpness at such a small size.

Why is the result sometimes much smaller than 50 KB?

Simple pictures with plain backgrounds compress very well, so the highest quality already fits under the target.

Does it change the picture size in pixels?

Only when needed. The tool first lowers the quality and reduces the pixel size only if quality alone cannot reach the target.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. The photo is processed on your device.
