Send files with a 6-digit code

Pick files, get a code, type it on the other device. The files go straight from one device to the other.

This tool needs JavaScript. Please turn it on in your browser.

How to use it

  1. Step 1

On the sending device, choose the files and press Create 6-digit code.

  2. Step 2

On the other device, open this page, choose Receive and type the code, or scan the QR code.

  4. Step 4

Keep both pages open until the progress bar finishes, then download the files.

About this tool

This tool works like the well-known send-by-code services. Your browser makes a direct, encrypted connection to the other browser, so the files travel from device to device and do not pass through our website. There is no account, no upload wait and no size limit set by us.

To find each other, the two browsers briefly use a free public connection service (PeerJS). It sees the 6-digit code and the network addresses of both devices, never the files. If a direct path is blocked by a strict network, the data may be relayed through a public relay server, and it stays encrypted.

The code works only while the sender keeps this page open, and for one receiving device at a time. Received files are kept in the browser memory until you save them, so extremely large transfers (several GB) are better done on a computer than on a phone.

Questions

Are my files uploaded to your server?

No. The files go directly from the sending browser to the receiving browser and are encrypted on the way. Our server only delivers this web page.

How long does the code last?

Until the sender closes or reloads the page. After that the code stops working, so there is nothing to clean up.

Is there a file size limit?

We set none. The practical limit is the memory of the receiving device, because files are held in memory until you save them. Phones handle hundreds of MB well; several GB are better received on a computer.

Why can the two devices not connect?

Both devices need internet and this page open. Very strict company or school networks can block direct connections, and the transfer may then be slower or fail. Try another network, such as mobile data.

Can I send to several people at once?

One receiver at a time. After the first transfer finishes, press Make a new code or let the next person use the same code while the page is open.
