About this tool

Websites often serve pictures in WebP, so when you save one it may arrive as a .webp file that older programs, some printers, and many upload forms do not accept. JPG is accepted nearly everywhere.

The converter draws the WebP on a canvas in your browser and saves it as JPG. If the WebP has a transparent background, the transparent area becomes white. To keep transparency, convert to PNG with the image converter.

Because both formats are lossy, converting adds a small second loss of quality. Use a high setting such as 90% to keep it unnoticeable. Nothing is uploaded; the work happens on your device.

Questions

Why do I get WebP files when I save pictures?

Many websites send WebP because it makes smaller downloads. Your browser saves the file in the format it received.

Is WebP better than JPG?

It is usually smaller at the same quality, but JPG is supported by more programs and services.

What about animated WebP?

Only the first frame is converted, because JPG cannot hold an animation.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Conversion happens in your browser.
