About this tool

Zakat is due at 2.5% on wealth that stays above the nisab for a full lunar year. The nisab is worth 87.48 grams of gold or 612.36 grams of silver; many scholars advise using the silver value because it is lower and so reaches more people in need. Choose the basis you follow.

Add the zakatable assets: cash and bank balances, gold and silver, shares and funds held for investment, business stock, and money owed to you that you expect to receive. Subtract debts that are due now. If what remains is at or above the nisab, 2.5% of it is zakat.

The rules differ between schools of thought on items such as jewellery in use, pensions, property and loans, so this is a guide and not a fatwa. Ask a qualified scholar if you are unsure. Use one currency in every box, and the figures stay on your device.
